“Part of the reason I got into this business is because I want to tell people what they don’t always hear in other aspects of media outlets,” said Michael Lyle, Jr.
The anchor and reporter love to inform his audience nationally and locally. “As a media person for a long time. Yeah… I’ve dealt with national work, but there is nothing like being in your community, covering Community News, and getting the pulse of what goes on in the backyard where you work. People embrace you for taking the time to do these stories because they feel their voices are not [always] heard.”
Lyle, Jr., is a local host for “Morning Edition” on NPR affiliate KUNC 91.5 FM in Greeley, Colorado. He also reports for KUNC’s Northern Colorado and metro Denver areas. “Community Journalism is very important these days. Lyle, Jr. explained.
The four-time Connecticut AP Award-winning journalist believes voting in this year’s election is very important. Lyle, Jr. thinks the National Association of Black Journalists should have had not only Donald Trump but also Vice President Kamala Harris attend the organization’s 2024 Convention and Career Fair event held in Chicago this past Summer to encourage members and locals to hear both Presidential candidates’ perspectives and plans for the U.S., while one of them takes office in 2025. “We’re in a tough year right now. I think the issue is that people want to talk more seriously… What’s going to matter more than anything else… That speaks on the political campaigns of these candidates.”
After 31 years in the industry, Lyle, Jr. ” self-expressed” how much young people should gain journalism experience before entering the workforce. “While you’re on campus at your prospective institution… Get involved with everything—radio, television, and newspaper! Learn as much about the business as you can,” said Lyle, Jr.
